Aon Australia recognised for commitment and achievement in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Insurance Business Diversity, Equity and Inclusion 2022 Medal awarded to Aon for 5-star DE&I initiatives.

SYDNEY, 25 July 2022 - Aon plc (NYSE: AON), a leading global professional services firm, today announced it has been awarded the Insurance Business Diversity, Equity and Inclusion 2022 Medal in Australia in recognition of its commitment and achievement in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) initiatives.

The Insurance Business Research team reviewed DEI initiatives of firms over the past 12 months to determine the award.

During a 15-week process, the team conducted one-on-one interviews with DE&I professionals to gain a keen understanding of industry standards and learn which companies have met or exceeded these expectations.

The Research team contacted the companies’ employees to gauge the effectiveness of these programs. The companies that scored 4 or higher on a scale of 1 to 5 were recognised for having 5-Star DE&I programs.

“This award is a testament to our commitment to empowering colleagues, clients and communities while helping our clients make better decisions in an increasingly volatile world. Aon was the only one of its peers included in the list of Insurance Business medal winners in Australia, demonstrating our industry leadership in this area. This award recognition also reflects my personal pledge to ensure we continue to lift up and celebrate diversity and inclusion in all forms, across all levels in our firm and in our industry,” said Jennifer Richards, CEO of Aon Australia.

Deb Gibson, leader of the Inclusion Business Resource Group (IBRG) and member of Aon’s Colleague Empowerment Council in Australia as well as the Asia-Pacific Regional Inclusion and Diversity Sub-Committee, is incredibly proud of the recognition and the importance of organisations ‘walking-the-talk’ when it comes to inclusion and diversity.

“Aon is a leader as an inclusive workplace, which has resonated with so many of our Aon colleagues. I am excited to see more progress as our regional IBRG's come together and collaborate further in the APAC region as we move beyond solely gender-focused discussions to ethnicity, LGBTQ+, disability and socioeconomic initiatives,” said Gibson.

In Australia, Aon continues to deliver a range of DE&I initiatives, including:

  • Creation of the Colleague Empowerment Council with the purpose of uniting and connecting all Aon colleagues to achieve their full potential.
  • Inclusion of gender pronouns in colleagues’ email signatures.
  • Acknowledgement of Country throughout business operations.
  • Promotion of Pride activities.
  • Encouragement of clients to complete Aon’s global DE&I Survey.
  • Encouragement of colleagues to participate in an internal diversity campaign to offer clarity on the full extent of diversity at Aon and help identify any inclusion approach gaps.
