The Meanings Of Hazard

Anyone studying the management of hazards and disasters is quickly struck by the varied terminology which is employed by different managers to deal with such situations. Frequently, this variation is the result of the myriad different organisations and individuals who have a responsibility for dealing with the variety of aspects associated with the threat of, or impact from, hazardous events.
How these groups deal with the implications of such circumstances will be markedly dependent upon the aims and objectives that their particular form of responsibility dictates. The meaning of the terminology itself, therefore, has a bearing on the response to the hazard and consequent disaster.
